There’s never a bad time to show your customers or clients that you appreciate them. We all know the value of the warm and fuzzy feeling. Here are easy ways to show you care: Send a Note: It can be handwritten and in cursive like your primary school teach always wanted, an email, text, snap or direct message. Pick what feels most appropriate for your working relationship. Make a Call: Taking 5 minutes from your day just to say “thank you” and see how they’re doing is a great relationship builder. Smile & Wave: See them across the grocery or hardware store? Even if you completely blank on their name because it’s so out of context, give a smile and a polite wave to show them you recognize them.  Get In Their Belly: Offer to buy them coffee or lunch sometime. Some time together could lead to another sale, though the focus of the time shouldn’t be on that. Offer a Loyalty Program: Your business model is to make profit. The more times you get them coming back, the more you’ll make. Throw in a freebie now and a again just to say thank you. Birthday Bonus: Everyone has a birthday. Using Calendly to Automate Appointment Requests

Finding a time that works for both my schedule and my clients can be a challenge. As business owners, executive directors and – often times – volunteers, we have a lot on our plates. Add in the personal stuff and calendars quickly look full. In an effort to streamline and make things easier in the long-run right from the get-go I’ve implemented an appointment scheduling tool. It’s called Calendly.  Not to be confused with the social media scheduler Calendy which I stumbled on accidentally recently. Why Use a Scheduler? Instead of emailing times/days that work back and forth and back and forth and…well, you get it, playing phone tag or interrupting effective productivity time with texts I can set my schedule of availability and let clients pick a day and time that works best for them. While I love the personal interaction with each person and company that I work with, using a scheduling tool like Calendly allows my calendar to fill itself. How Does Calendly Work? After you set up a free account, you log in. The first thing you see is the Dashboard which shows you upcoming appointments which can be filtered. You will want to navigate to the Event Type section to edit the pre-made filler or create your own. Each Event Type can have completely different settings, availability and follow-up to tailor the process. Edit the Event Type and you’ll see settings for availability. What would you do differently?

Another year is in the record books, the archives, it’s history. So…looking back, what would you have done differently?  I for one, would have set expectations for my family a bit differently. Doing business as Newell Design is currently freelance, meaning I make my own hours to fit what my clients need and what I need to make it work. What doesn’t work out so well is thinking and planning on doing certain tasks without telling my husband and 3 year old… it results in fights, tears and disappointment. So, this year, one of my resolutions is a promise to myself and my family that I will clearly communicate my schedule and schedule my work time each week so we can have quality time when it is expected and to say “no” to projects that don’t work with our schedule. Put Some Pride In It

When was the last time you puffed out your chest and felt proud? I’ve had 2 moments lately that are seemingly un-related, but looking at them now they are completely the same. Moment 1: I sold my first item on Etsy. Earlier this year, I told you I was going to open an Etsy shop. I totally missed my goal deadline. I was waiting until I had “enough”. Enough time to design new pieces, enough products to make my shop look full, enough marketing prepped and ready to have a successful launch and make hundreds – okay – dozens of dollars. Trouble was, I didn’t see a break on the horizon. Work still demanded 40 hours, family still deserved my attention, I had to eat, I had to sleep and I had to give myself some unproductive time to rejuvenate to do it all over again tomorrow. So you know what I did? I launched. I clicked the little button that turned my Etsy shop public. You know what else happened? Nothing. The world didn’t come crashing down because my shop wasn’t all that I wanted it to be. But I was happy. I was now open for business. I now had a chance at selling something. Was it a good chance? Heck no. But one evening, while watching tv with my husband I got an email. That email was a confirmation of PAYMENT for one of my Etsy listings! I sold something! And it wasn’t to anyone I had ever met before. She is from out of state and she paid me for my work. I’ve never been...

Do you like the new Like button?

For years Facebook members have been asking, begging, pleading with Facebook to make a “dislike” button. Instead, they are providing six of the most common reactions: Like Love Haha Wow Sad Angry Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like…you have to hover over the Like button for them to appear. I don’t think this is the right solution. It’s a start…but these icons are not the familiar, friendly, corporate style the rest of Facebook seems to be. Additionally, this opens the door to the other 99% of emotions someone has to a post. What about disgusted, weary, elated, ambivalent, or curious. Will we continue to add to this array of reactions to have or will we be challenged to choose from just a handful? What are your thoughts?
